Small Title

Challenge 1

At this point in the school year, we would like Y3 children to be able to read a text at level W. Can children read the below extract and answer the questions? Top Tip- click the arrows and select 'present mode' to make full screen.

Challenge 2

We have allocated a text to most children on their Raz Kids account. Follow these instructions for how to log in. Please note- some children who have completed this scheme ( achieved  grade  z2) will no longer have a Raz kids account. If you can not find your child's username below, this is why!. Instead we encourage children to read for 20 minutes daily independently and be able to summarise what they have read to you. They should begin to make predictions and justify the authors choice of language in relation to characters feelings, motives and actions.

Step 1: Go to

Step 2: Enter or choose the teacher's username, sk179tw

Step 3: Your child finds his or her username on the class chart

Step 4: Your child enters his or her password, spoon

The Raz kids App is available on all major app stores.

The texts that have been set fall in line with your child's recent reading assessment. In Year 1, children are at the early stages of reading texts that require more than phonics alone to decode. Don't worry if some of these books are tricky. We don't expect automatic decoding at this stage. It is important for children to read the book several times to develop this skill.

Challenge 3

Can you read independently for 20 minutes each day? For reluctant readers we recommend the below titles for Y3

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Dog Man
