Outdoor Learning

Outdoor Learning is active learning in the outdoors. In Outdoor Learning participants learn through what they do, through what they encounter and through what they discover. Participants learn about the outdoors, themselves and each other, while also learning outdoor skills.  Outdoor Learning is something that we do a lot because we are lucky enough to have amazing green spaces in the local area.

All of our children will regularly experience different kinds of Outdoor Learning.  Sometimes, lessons simply take place outside, on the playground or on the field behind school.

We’ve seen historic re-enactments one week and then outside phonics another.  Usually, our children learn about the environment and sustainability when learning outside.  We’ve seen our children harvesting fruit from our fruit trees as well as setting up science investigations about the weather.

We are also lucky enough to have our own woodland. This allows us to carry out regular Forest School sessions.

Forest School is a child-centred inspirational learning process. It is a long-term program that supports play, exploration and supported risk taking. It develops confidence and self-esteem through learner inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural setting.
